Molinism is a theological theory named after the 16th-century Spanish Jesuit theologian Luis de Molina
Middle Knowledge:
Molinism introduces the idea of middle knowledge (Scientia Media) which is God's knowledge of counterfactuals. Molinism asks what free creatures would do under any given set of circumstances.
All this is distinct from God's natural knowledge (knowledge of necessary truths) and free knowledge
The primary goal of Molinism is to reconcile God's omniscience and sovereignty with human freedom
Molinism aims to show how God can know and plan for future events without violating human free will
SUMMARY
Philosophical Basis:
Molinism attempts to address the philosophical problem of how God's foreknowledge and human free will can coexist.
Molinism suggests that God knows what free creatures would do in any situation, allowing Him to plan and act accordingly without predetermining their choices
Molinism would say that God foreknows but that God does not cause.
