Prayer #1
Many years ago a man asked me to be his spiritual advisor. When I offered him the path of faith, It was decades till I saw him again. I suggested that we start with prayer he said slowing down was not a consideration.
One of the most influential persons in my life was Rosemary Lambert. She was like a spiritual mother that coached me. On prayer. When I met her for the first time, I told her she was crazy and I meant it.
-Her language was different.
-Her insights required attention and contemplation.
-Her approach to life and ministry were not earthly
My curtness made her cry. However she kept coming back. She went home to pray and then I would see her again. Rosemary never gave up on me. I understand now that she prayed. She knew the Lord had not given up on me. She knew that she was the conduit being used to help me.
Over time Rosemary became a good friend of our family. She was certainly an inspiration to me. She lived the life of Prayer. She taught me how to pray the Word of God. It was easy to see that she walked with the Lord. Her grasp of the Bible was heavenly. Rosemary is now home with the Lord and I miss her ministry. The Church at large misses her profound ministry.
So now let’s consider two lives:
-One that had no interest or time to pray and then finished empty
-One that prayed without ceasing and she finished well
What we can learn:
-Prayer is at the basis of everything that matters
-Prayer was at the core of Jesus’ life and ministry
-God wants us to participate with him in this worlds affairs
-We can only understand in part. Im still learning
-Prayer is taking time to see whats on The Lord’s heart.
-Then as we see His plans we can flow them with faith.
-Nothing happens without prayer. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
-You are here today because someone prayed
When do we Pray:
-Jail house prayer is common.
-Hot seat prayer happens when we are in a tight spot.
-Those that Pray without ceasing are never without faith and hope.
The Disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray and He started here:
“Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name”
Most of us have said the Lords Prayer at some time. We’ve at least heard it said. This is where Jesus told the Disciples to start.
It’s a prayer that sets you on the journey of practicing the presence of God and Prayer.
